United Medical Center Careers
About United Medical Center Careers:
The Not-for-Profit Hospital Corporation (NFPHC), widely recognized as United Medical Center (UMC), plays a pivotal role as a District of Columbia government hospital, catering to the healthcare needs of Southeast DC and neighboring Maryland communities. Established in 2010 through the NFPHC Establishment Act, UMC operates as a distinct entity within the District Government, ensuring vital healthcare services for the region.
UMC’s history reflects its commitment to the community, beginning as the 380-bed Morris Cafritz Memorial Hospital in 1966. Over the years, it evolved, being renamed as the Greater Southeast Community Hospital in 1974 and expanding its services with a nursing home in 1980 and the Fort Washington Medical Center in 1983. In 2008, it adopted the name United Medical Center. After experiencing multiple ownership changes between 1999 and 2010, UMC found its permanent home as a valuable asset to the Government of the District of Columbia in 2010.
